10T English essay

Elie Wiesel's memoir 'Night' is his experiences during the Holocaust. He uses a range of language techniques such as Emotive language, Repetition, and first person narration. His writing had a big emotional impact on me, making me feel sad, upset and angry.

In the book Night it talks about a 12 year old boy called Elie who survived the holocaust. The book was written by Elie Wiesel but when he wrote his book it was in a different language and had a different name, So Elie's wife re-wrote it in english and called it Night. The Holocaust has to be one of the worst things that has ever happened in history. In the Holocaust there was approximately 11 million people killed. There were around 6 million jews killed and around 5 million prisoners or war killed. Every day the guards would send around 10,000 people to the gas chambers and the firepit to go and get killed. people would have to watch friends and relatives march to their death.

There was so many ways that people were killed in the Holocaust. Some people were thrown into the gas chambers, Some people were thrown into a firepit and more. A Lot of the children were killed because the guards and Hitler said that the aren't worth keeping them alive because they are too young to be forced to work, so instead they just threw them into the fire pit while they were still alive. When the guards were taking the children to get killed, the would put them on a truck and drive them to the fire pit even though the children thought that they were going home. The children's parents had to watch them get driven out of the place to go get killed. I can't even imagine what the children and adults were feeling.

"In a fraction of a second I could see my mother, my sister, move to the right, Tzipora was holding mother's hand. I saw them walking farther and farther away, was the quote from the book Night when Elie's family was getting selected to go and get killed in the gas chambers. The technique used in this quote was first person narration using the first person pronouns 'I/my'. This made me feel so sad because Elie's family got selected to go to the gas chambers to get killed while Elie was watching them march to their death.

"I did not weep, and it pained me that I could not weep. but I was out of tears. And deep inside me, if I would have searched the recesses of my feeble conscience, I might have found something like: ``Free at last", was the quote from the book night when Elie's Dad had died. The technique used in this quote was emotive language. The use of words, Pain, tears, deep inside me. are used to stir my emotions. It made me feel upset that Elie had to see his dad go through this. And it made me upset also because of the fact that he couldn't weep after his dad had died.

Never shall I forget the small faces of those children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky was the quote from the book night when Elie saw children getting killed by getting thrown into a fire pit while they were still alive. The technique used in this quote was Repetition, the words never shall I forget were used 8 times. This made me feel angry because of the fact that babies were getting killed for no reason at all.

These techniques helped me understand how people suffered during the holocaust. It gave me a much better understanding of the horrific experiences that some people have gone through. I do hope that as people ,all over the world that we have learnt something about how we treat each other. Sometimes I worry about all the friction around the world now. With many countries fighting each other and many lives lost.
